For kids through teens who struggle to identify their OWN emotions (even if they find it easy to identify them on others), take time to visually demonstrate how to locate emotions in different areas of the body. This visual rainbow activity teaches kids how to assign complicated emotions (anger, uncomfortable, anxious, afraid, sad, relaxed, silly, and annoyed) to specific body parts.
It is much easier to decide on a coping skill when you have the skills to locate your internal states in your body.
Examples: If you feel anxious in your chest, try a swing, a trampoline, or a compression vest! If you feel sad in your throat, try drinking some water and taking deep breaths. If you feel relaxed in your chest, let's identify what activities give you that feeling in your chest.
